Bailey Funk is a visual artist from Chicago by way of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. From a young age, art played a major role in her upbringing. Growing up, she took lead from her father who made his living through freelance art. After high school, Funk moved to Chicago to attend Columbia College with a focus major in graphic design and a minor in fashion business. Originally, she had plans to form a clothing line.
Bailey is known for her signature unique approach to painting, utilizing dark and bold color choices with heavy urban undertones. Maintaining authenticity in every sense of the word, Bailey hand-paints all of her pieces on a wide array of , giving each stroke it’s own personality and aesthetic. She is known to paint on a wide array of material, using anything from shoes to people as a backdrop. Her main focus in all of this is to maintain organic lines and demonstrate their technical advantages over digital creations.
Circa 2012, she was offered her first opportunity to appear in a live art show. The show, curated by The Infusion Project & Beauty Bar Chicago, led to more opportunities and allowed Funk to begin to build a foundation to a creative career in painting. From there, she was featured in several other live art events, providing her with a platform to showcase her work in a variety of different settings.
In 2016, Bailey had the good fortune of receiving an invite to paint live at Station 23, the invite-only lounge above the Downtown Chicago Jordan store. Through the duration of this space, she was showcased in two separate events and also had a piece of artwork on display in the room.
Now that Bailey Funk has created a name and identity for herself in Chicago’s DIY art community, she has a portfolio full of art curated for several different reasons. Some of her work covers music flyers and she has featured her work at a handful of shows in tattoo shops around the city.
Bailey Funk currently resides on the west side of Chicago, with aspirations to take her art career to the next level. Currently, she is curating a series of painting for a handful of upcoming shows that she has booked over the net few months.
